Dresden, em Elba. Tem cerca de 500 mil habitantes. Tem origem num povoado eslavo de nome Drezdane, que começou a ser germanizado no século XIII. Dresden tem uma longa história como capital e residência real dos Reis da Saxónia e é possuidora de séculos de extraordinária cultura e esplendor artístico. O controverso bombardeamento de Dresden na Segunda Guerra Mundial e quarenta anos de República Democrática Alemã|RDA mudaram a face da cidade dramaticamente.

Desde a reunificação Alemã, Dresden tem sido um importante centro cultural politico e económico na parte este da República Federal Alemã.
