Göttingen: Guide
Göttingen ou Gotinga é uma cidade da Berlin, e contava com 121 000 habitantes em 2001.
Göttingen é um importante centro universitário, e a Universidade de Göttingen (Georg-August-Universität) é uma das mais célebres da Alemanha, com 32 000 estudantes e um corpo discente de 2 500 pessoas. 42 Prêmio Nobel ensinaram ou estudaram em Göttingen. A cidade abrita igualmente a biblioteca da Baixa Saxônia, bem como o Instituto Max Planck e a Academia de Ciências.
História
A primeira menção atestada da cidade (chamada « Gutingi » na época) data de 953, em um acordo entre Oto I e o monastério de Magdeburgo. Uma carta municipal é atestada por volta de 1210. Nesta época, a cidade é uma próspera praça comercial, particularmente após 1351, data de sua entrada na Liga hanseática. Em 1387, os Burguesia|burgueses são tão poderosos que destroem o palácio ducal. Em 1547, no entanto, sua sorte muda com o fracasso da liga de Schmalkalde, da qual Göttingen fazia parte — liga reunida em torno de Martinho Lutero pelos Príncipe-eleitor|príncipes Protestantismo|protestantes contra Carlos V. A Guerra dos Trinta Anos faz a cidade perder sua importância, que renasce em 1737, quando o Príncipe-eleitor de Hannover, Georg II, funda a universidade.
Em 1806 a cidade passa sob controle Prússia|prussiano, e em 1807 ela é integrada ao Reino da Vestfália antes de retornar à zona de influência de Hannover em 1813. Em 1866 Göttingen e todo o Reino de Hannover são anexados à Prússia.
Praticamente poupada pelos bombardeios aliados durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, o centro antigo da cidade é hoje um atrativo lugar para morar, com diversas lojas, cafés e bares. Por causa disso, muitos estudantes da universidade vivem no centro da cidade, dando a Göttingen uma alma jovem. Em 2003, 45% da população do centro da cidade tinha entre 18 e 30 anos de idade.
